This limited edition large format giclée print of a gallery relief is made from a photographic plate that appeared in “Paris 1928 - Librairie Des Arts Décoratifs” a rare portfolio documenting the European Arts Decoratifs from 1920-1936. The original gallery relief is believed to have been destroyed in WW II.

Gallery No. 1,  is one of a series depicting artisans at work and an excellent example of Leyritz’ distinct style of sculpture. His use of strong angular elements interacts with the highlights and shadows of the light skimming the relief's surface, helping to “draw” the essential lines of the subject matter.

Léon Leyritz was a noted sculptor and artist in Paris at the turn of the century. He worked in many materials including bronze and ceramics. He also painted frescos, produced bas-reliefs, and designed theatre sets. Many of his porcelains are modeled after theatrical characters.
