This limited edition large format giclée print of a leather bookbindings by Legrain, is made from a photographic plate that appeared in “L'art international d'aujourd'hui, reliures, no. 8”, a rare portfolio of plates documenting the European Arts Decoratifs from 1920-1937. A copy of “L’envers du music-hall” is in the permanent collection of the New York Public Library. Other copies are believed to be in private collections.

“L’envers du music-Hall” is a wonderfully poetic scape of geometric patterns. Pierre Legrain designs are virtually always abstract and linear. Legrain employed leather as well as unexpected materials with unusual tones with great success. Legrain was a renowned book and interior designer. He designed prolifically over a relatively short time, establishing a style of design whose success helped inspire the rebirth of modern bookbinding.
