This limited edition large format giclée print is made from a pochoir of a gouache rendering for a showcase project by René Herbst that originally appeared in “L’art International D’Aujourd ‘Hui #8, Boutiques Et Magasins” a rare portfolio of plates documenting the European Arts Decoratifs from 1920-1937. The original gouache art is either in a private collection or was destroyed in WW II.

René Herbst was an architect and designer and one of the pioneers of the modern movement. He co-founded alongside Robert Mallet-Stevens, Francis Jourdain and Hélène Henry the UAM (Union of Modern Artists.) He believed that art and domestic comfort should be accessible to all, and that bringing art "in the street" was the best way to bring us and our cities into the twentieth century.
